What Is the First Step Gala?
Domestic and sexual violence can leave a lasting impact on the victims. Supporting these survivors is crucial — as is raising awareness, whether through volunteering or events like the annual First Step gala.
The First Step Gala aims to help raise funds and awareness for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Guests can enjoy a plated dinner and cocktails while listening to live music from The Bluewater Kings or bid on the silent auction. The night will feature an award ceremony and survivor speakers, who will share their stories to help others.
The Theme: You Are the Light
Survivors may find themselves stumbling through the dark, struggling to figure out the best path forward. Many may search for a light to guide them. Our theme, “You Are the Light,” symbolizes providing that idea; with your support, we can provide others with the hope and support they need to move forward.
We interweave this theme into every aspect of the gala. Lights fill the space, helping to provide a visual representation of the theme and highlight the message. Guest speakers will talk about their own experiences and how they were able to cope after these difficult events. The atmosphere creates an emotionally resonant night that can provide you with resources — whether as a survivor or someone aiming to be a community partner.
When Is the First Step Gala?
The First Step Gala will take place on Friday, November 8th, 2024. Make sure to mark it on your calendar so that you can plan ahead and clear your schedule!
The doors will officially open at 6:15 p.m. Check-in, take the time to speak to other guests, explore auction items, or find your seat. Dinner officially begins at 7:00 p.m., where guests can enjoy either a chicken dish or a stacked vegetable tower, depending on their preference. The open bar will be available all night for you to enjoy.
After dinner, the night will feature an awards ceremony, guest speakers, and a silent auction. Doors officially close at 11:30 p.m.
Where Is the First Step Gala?
The First Step Gala will take place at Laurel Manor in Livonia, MI. This fantastic location features a large ballroom and banquet hall, fantastic staff, and beautiful amenities to provide the evening with a little extra elegance. In addition, the Laurel Manor can host thousands of individuals, making it perfect for such a major event.
The manor itself has a well-lit parking area for any guests arriving the night of. It’s also fully ADA/ACA accessible. Once on-site, guests can enjoy free WiFi, explore the beautiful event center, and otherwise absorb the wonderful atmosphere.
